Solution: Okay, there are 12 hours on the clock making 360 degrees, so each hour represents 30 degrees. At 3 p.m., the hour hand is directly on the 3 and the minute hand is directly on the 12. After 15 minutes, or one-quarter of an hour, the hour hand will have moved one-quarter of the 30 degree arc, or 7.5 degrees from the minute hand. The minute hand will now be on the 3. So the hour hand will be 7.5 degrees away from the minute hand.

Answer: 7.5 degrees.
