Color of the bear

Question:

A hunter sets up camp, walks 10 miles south and 10 miles east. He shoots a bear and drags it 10 miles north back to his camp.

What color is the bear?

Solution: The color of the bear is white because only polar bears live at the North Pole, the location of his camp, the only place on earth where one can walk 10 miles south, 10 miles east, and 10 miles north and be at the starting point. Or are there other such places? We will dig into this question more in the next puzzle.

Answer: White.

Now, let’s look at a more generalized form of the previous puzzle. Some candidates are tempted to answer “white” even before the interviewer is finished asking the question. Make sure you listen to the entire question before answering.
